HCVP (SECTION 8) Home Ownership Program

Text Box: Step 1: Attend a one-on-one counseling session to develop your homeownership plan. CHA will work with you to get you ready to purchase a home by reviewing your credit, work history and financial situation.
Step 2: Attend six classroom homebuyer education courses to determine if you are ready for homeownership and to gain a better understanding of the home buying process.
Step 3: Work your homeownership plan. 
Attend all additional counseling/workshops, Establish and maintain good credit. Follow other suggestions given by your homeownership counselor.
Step 4: CHA will determine the maximum amount of voucher assistance you can use to purchase a home and the maximum mortgage for which you qualify.
Section 8 department qualifies someone for a voucher based on income and household size. The maximum amount of mortgage is based on your income and debts.
Step 5: You apply for a mortgage loan with a mortgage lender and begin shopping for a home.
Step 6: Two inspections will be conducted on the home you wish to purchase; a Housing Quality Standards Inspection (HQS) conducted by CHA and a private inspection conducted by a private inspection conducted by a qualified private inspector of your choice.
Step 7: Once your loan application has been approved by the mortgage lenders and your home has been approved by CHA, a loan closing will be scheduled.
Step 8:You will attend a real estate closing at the office of a local attorney or title company.
