Mary Walker Towers

Text Box: Mary Walker, a resident of this complex prior to her death at age 117, not only witnessed slavery as a child, but also learned to read and write as a centenarian. The 160-unit high-rise complex was named in her honor in 1971 as the second of the two buildings was completed.
Safety, security, convenience and a homey atmosphere have been enhanced in recent years at this oldest of CHA’s elderly developments. Elevator upgrades and video monitoring systems are supported around the clock by a security agency and a host of “resident greeters.” Efficiency apartments are being combined to create larger units and laundry facilities on each floor. Public spaces on the ground floor are bright, cheery and fully accessible to those with special needs. Residents also have access to programs provided by Senior Neighbors of Chattanooga within the complex.
